SCERTS Model Implementation Guide (Simplified Chinese Edition)
Heep Hong Society introduced the SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, Transactional Support) Model for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) from the US to Hong Kong in 2011 and has since then developed adjustments to maximise its benefits for local children. The model has three major features: (1) it helps children with ASD to improve their motivation for communication and socialising; (2) enhances their problem-solving and emotional regulation competences; and (3) emphasises the importance of transactional support provided by the multi-disciplinary team and parents. The SCERTS Team of the Society published the SCERTS Model Implementation Guide to facilitate professionals and parents in grasping the specific strategies to help children with ASD. Chapter 1 explains the principles and theory of the SCERTS Model; Chapter 2 provides step-by-step guidelines in applying the SCERTS Model in local settings through three case studies. A complimentary DVD of practical training materials (e.g. emotion cue cards, animation, waiting spinner, timetable and general regulation tips) is included. For better training, trainers can use the Guide with the free ‘Social Emotion’ iPad and Android app.

Sports Training for Lower Primary Students with Autism
Physical Education is in the curriculum of mainstream education to improve the physical and psychological well-being, and nurture the team spirit of students. Nevertheless, owing to their problems of motor coordination, and difficulties in social communication and emotion regulation, most high-functioning students with autism derive no satisfaction from sports, and fall behind the physical education syllabus. Written by the Physiotherapy Team at Heep Hong Society, this book helps teachers and parents learn more about the physical condition of primary one to three high-functioning students with autism, and compiles over 100 professional and practical exercises to strengthen the fundamental abilities of students affected and their specific techniques in tossing, skipping, track activities, and ball games. The exercises incorporate social and communication skills training and emotion management training to improve the children’s interpersonal skills. Each exercise is illustrated with step-by-step instructions and pictures for teachers and parents to conduct systematic training for their children at school or at home, using training materials adapted from daily necessities. A DVD is included with videos of the exercises for reference. This book was sponsored by the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged. Buy Now

Workplace Stories of Autistic Youths
Just like their normal peers, autistic youths are keen to earn their living and lead an independent life. Nevertheless, owing to the absence of general understanding and acceptance of their unique mode of communication, they are confronted with great challenges of standing on their own feet. To deepen the public understanding of autistic youths and equip the latter with job skills, the ‘Pre-job Training for Autistic Youths’ project has been held by Heep Hong Society in partnership with MSIG Insurance (Hong Kong) Limited since 2008 to provide the youths with training and internship opportunities. Workplace Stories of Autistic Youths is a collection of workplace stories shared by the participants to deepen public understating of their characteristics, strengths and needs. Employers are welcome to contact the Hoi Fu Centre of the Society at 2777 5588 for free copies of the booklet.
