The Activity Guides for Pre-school Education
Since its first publication in 1986, the Developmental Learning Package has been popular with practitioners and parents in Hong Kong, Macao and the Mainland for its practicality. In the light of its surging demand, the Developmental Learning Package has been duly revised by multi-disciplinary professionals of Heep Hong Society to form The Activity Guides for Pre-school Education, which is composed of a set of six books featuring a full range of activities for training children in six aspects (namely gross motor, fine motor, cognitive, language, self-care, social and emotion) to equip pre-school practitioners and parents with the knowledge and skills for training children with developmental delay problems or special educational needs. The Activity Guides for Pre-school Education illustrates the theoretical background of different training concepts, and features over 3,300 functional developmental activities in six developmental aspects, namely gross motor, fine motor, cognitive, language, self-care, social and emotion. The activities are designed in age sequence (from birth to 6 years old) for training in everyday life, including individual training activities, home programmes, specific therapies and school programmes, etc. Samples and illustration of different teaching and training materials are also provided. The Activity Guides for Pre-school Education is applicable to normal children, and, in particular, children with developmental delay and learning difficulties. It serves as a practical guide for training children with different levels of development after conducting assessment with the aid of the Development Assessment Chart and identifying the key learning and training objectives for children with the aid of the Developmental Learning Package – Curriculum Guide. The Training Package for Autistic Children (New Edition)
The Training Package for Autistic Children (New Edition) The Training Package for Autistic Children (New Edition) is comprised of a set of six books, for use in combination with the Chinese PEP-3. It provides a detailed explanation of the key concepts and teaching strategies of the TEACCH approach as well as over 200 training objectives and 1,000 activities developed with reference but not limited to the Chinese PEP-3 assessment items. They are arranged by level of difficulty, which enables trainers to formulate training plans based on the assessment results. The Package is also an excellent reference for parents. Compared with the old training package, this new version has included an elaborate explanation on the theoretical base, pre-requisite skills and sequence for learning in each of the domains, namely Cognitive Verbal/Pre-verbal, Expressive and Receptive Language, Fine Motor, Gross Motor, Visual/Motor Imitation, Social Reciprocity, Affective Expression, and Personal Self-care. The number of training objectives and activities has been significantly increased with tips on modifications and adaptation to suit individual child’s needs. In particular, the training activities in social reciprocity and affective expression have been strengthened to address autistic children’s core deficits in these aspects. The book includes a QR code that, when scanned, provides access to videos demonstrating the implementation procedures of the TEACCH program, designed to facilitate the trainers’ understanding on the application of the TEACCH model. This twin set of books on children's developmental learning was contributed by a professional team consists of dozens of staff members under the supervision of a board of paediatricians and consultants. Since its first draft in 2003, trial teaching had been undertaken by Heep Hong's teachers, whose feedback was painstakingly adapted to fine-tune the content. Produced on the basis of developmental stages of ordinary children from birth to six years old, the Developmental Assessment Charts was slightly modified to be applicable to both ordinary children and those with mental retardation or disabilities. The Package helps teachers and parent grasp the key learning and training objectives for their children at different developmental stages and prepare appropriate training programmes accordingly. SCERTS Model Implementation Guide
Heep Hong Society introduced the SCERTS (Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, Transactional Support) Model for autism spectrum disorder (ASD) from the US to Hong Kong in 2011 and has since then developed adjustments to maximise its benefits for local children. The model has three major features: (1) it helps children with ASD to improve their motivation for communication and socialising; (2) enhances their problem-solving and emotional regulation competences; and (3) emphasises the importance of transactional support provided by the multi-disciplinary team and parents. The SCERTS Team of the Society published the SCERTS Model Implementation Guide to facilitate professionals and parents in grasping the specific strategies to help children with ASD. Chapter 1 explains the principles and theory of the SCERTS Model; Chapter 2 provides step-by-step guidelines in applying the SCERTS Model in local settings through three case studies. A complimentary DVD of practical training materials (e.g. emotion cue cards, animation, waiting spinner, timetable and general regulation tips) is included. For better training, trainers can use the Guide with the free ‘Social Emotion’ iPad and Android app. This book was sponsored by the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged. Buy Now

Sports Training for Lower Primary Students with Autism
Physical Education is in the curriculum of mainstream education to improve the physical and psychological well-being, and nurture the team spirit of students. Nevertheless, owing to their problems of motor coordination, and difficulties in social communication and emotion regulation, most high-functioning students with autism derive no satisfaction from sports, and fall behind the physical education syllabus. Written by the Physiotherapy Team at Heep Hong Society, this book helps teachers and parents learn more about the physical condition of primary one to three high-functioning students with autism, and compiles over 100 professional and practical exercises to strengthen the fundamental abilities of students affected and their specific techniques in tossing, skipping, track activities, and ball games. The exercises incorporate social and communication skills training and emotion management training to improve the children’s interpersonal skills. Each exercise is illustrated with step-by-step instructions and pictures for teachers and parents to conduct systematic training for their children at school or at home, using training materials adapted from daily necessities. A DVD is included with videos of the exercises for reference. This book was sponsored by the Partnership Fund for the Disadvantaged. Buy Now
