Children with dyslexia always encounter various difficulties and pressure in the process of learning. Some of them even exhibit emotional and behavioural problems. In recent years, it has aroused concerns among some education and social service groups over ther the needs of dyslexic children, and a wide range of support programmes were implemented.
In the past 3 years, Heep Hong's professional team comprised of educational psychologists, social workers and teachers took part in the "READ & WRITE: A Jockey Club Learning Support Network", which was sponsored and led by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, to develop a district-based support model and create a systemic education programme targeting at parents of children with dyslexia. To conclude their experience in district-based support service and parent education, the professional team has developed a holistic programme for peer professionals to support dyslexic children. It is hoped that through the provision of systematic training courses between December 2009 and May 2010, frontline social works could grasp the professional knowledge to provide dyslexic children with premium services.
